A new generation

Robert and Jelena De Belder were the initiators of today's Arboretum Kalmthout. Their legendary and contagious enthusiasm made garden lovers look differently at gardens and plants and prompted hundreds of people to take up gardening. Many students from around the globe benefited from their inexhaustible knowledge while mastering the practical aspects of gardening and increasing their theoretical understanding of plants.

The support for Fonds Jelena De Belder makes it possible for students and gardeners to learn more about plants during internships, courses and excursions. In 2017 a dozen Belgian interns learned about our vision of gardening in Arboretum Kalmthout. One landscape architect from Slovenia visited the garden. One gardener from Kew Gardens came to Belgium to study autumn colours. Two of our gardeners went on a study trip to Germany and the United Kingdom.

In 2018 a room will be build in the Vangeertenhof building for student accommodation.

For donations of €40 or more, you receive a tax certificate that entitles you to tax abatement in accordance with Article 104 of the Belgian Income Tax Code 1992. In 2013, the previous tax relief was replaced by a tax rebate amounting to 45% of total donations.
